Cardiovascular diseases

Cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of death in Austria.1 Among the most common cardiovascular diseases is hypertension, commonly referred to as high blood pressure. It strongly correlates with fatal cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, or heart failure, and favors these diseases in their progression to varying degrees. Other possible symptoms affecting cardiac patients include forms of cardiac arrhythmia such as tachycardia, its opposite bradycardia or atrial fibrillation. Some people experience extrasystoles and often experience them as heart stumbles or palpitations. Early medical evaluation can properly assess chest pains or similar unusual signs and reduce the risk of heart attack (myocardial infarction) or untreated myocarditis.
